For example, Russian grammar is studied for 9 years. How many years is English grammar studied at American schools?

November 20th, 2009 at 1:56 pmFrom the grammar used by supposed high school graduates, I’d say maybe the equivalent of a year or two. Grammar seems to be a lost art. The ‘all aspects’ as noted in a previous answer seem to take the lion’s share of the class time – grammar is given short shrift.
One of the problems is that the grammar used by the teachers is sadly deficient. If your child/grandchild/nephew/whatever gets a written communication from school, take a close look at it. If it’s more than two paragraphs long, I’ll bet there’s at least one error in it.
It’s a sad state of affairs. -
