November 24th, 2009 at 2:00 amI think the key is to “copy”. You listen to radio, TV or foreigners and you try to copy their accent. Very hard to begin, but after a while, after many times of imitating what they are saying, you will get a different accent. But repeating is essential! And not just in your mind, but out loud!
For me personally, language is actually imitating another person with of course the understanding of grammar.
If possible, residing in a native English country would be the best option… -

November 24th, 2009 at 2:20 amYou can watch videos and study very carefully the accents, and each particular sound. You could put the Spanish”r” face to face with the English one for example.

November 24th, 2009 at 2:39 amIt’s a very long process, but you can do it. Basically, you could benefit from:
- Practising in front of a mirror
- Saying the sentences slowly and gradually speed them up
- Using films, radio or television programmes and talking with them simultaneously
- Studying a bit of linguistics to understand the knobs and bolts of the accent you’re trying to get
- Studying a bit of pscyholinguistics to understand how the language works
- Studing a bit of educational psychology to understand the way you learn better (it’s different for each person)
But the core of it is: always be patient, never be conformist.
